Yamadera (Risshakuji Temple) was founded in 860, and has been a center of worship in the Tohoku region since then. While climbing up more than 1000 stone steps to the top of the mountain, you’ll see many temples and landmarks.

Zuihoden is the mausoleum of Date Masamune, the feudal lord of Sendai. It is a reconstruction of the original but the beauty of its elegant and gorgeous ornamentation conveys the Momoyama cultural traditions.

Shiroishi was under control of the Katakura clan, a family of retainers of the Date clan. Part of the castle tower was faithfully restored in 1995 and visitors can see the city center from there. Shiroishi Umen (warm noodles) is a local delicacy of Shiroishi city.
